What is the latest CK Image Browser update? Is it XP Compatible?

The most recent update for the Combo, Art of CL, Baby, Wedding and Vol's 1-3 is now available. This update will correct any issues you may have with printing, Journalettes (Division By Zero on XP) or other performance related issues. Download this file to your desktop or My Documents and when the download is complete, double click on the downloaded file to install the update.

Go to download page

Please note: This update will only work if you have your CK program(s) installed on your computer. If you run your CK program from the CD, this file will not be able to update your software.

Can I get permission to use CK products for commercial use?

Maybe, but you will need to contact Creating Keepsakes directly. They own all the rights to the software contents and you will need to get their express permission to use the software outside of the license agreement. The best route is to contact them through their website at www.creatingkeepsakes.com

Do I need a word processor/desktop publishing program to use these CK CD's?

No. A word processor or any other desktop publishing program is optional. The main reason for using one with the CK program is for combining graphics and images from the CK cd with text in your word processor for creating a newsletter, flyer, invitation, etc. But the CK program will work alone without the use of a word processor or other desktop publishing program.

Some common ones are MS Word, WordPerfect, or even Word Pad (which is found on all Windows computers under Start-Programs-Accessories.)

How do I use the program?

There is a Help file included on the CD which you will find by clicking on Help, then Helps n Hints.

The basics of using the program are: Select an alphabet style and click your mouse inside the box that says Type Text Here. Type up to 30 characters and click the Preview button, then click Print. For the clipart, select an image and click the print button. Click the Add Image button if the image does not automatically add itself to the Print Page. For the clipart, select an image and click the print button.

To move and size images within the lettering program, do the following: Once the image is on the page, click on it once to activate the border tabs. Using your mouse pointer, drag the tabs up or down to size the image. Use the corner tabs to keep the image from stretching out of shape. Drag the image from its center to move it.

You can close the print window without losing any information on it and go back and create another word, use another alphabet style, or select clipart images. Add as many letters or images as you need, move and size them as desired to create a layout, and print. You can also view the Help file that's on the CD by clicking Help, then Helps n' Hints.

Some of my b&w TrueType fonts do not appear in my Image Browser. Where are they?

Some of the lettering styles on the CD are not included as color alphabets which you can preview in the program's browser, but only as black and white true type fonts which you can use in your word processor to type with. This is because they are single stroke fonts with no spaces to fill in with the fill patterns. If you do wish to color these fonts, please use the font color option in your word processor or in the Journalette feature to add color to these fonts.

The black and white true type fonts have to be installed to your computer's hard drive in order for you to use them. If you have already done the full installation for the program, the fonts were also installed and you'll find them in your word processor font list with all the other fonts such as Arial or Times New Roman. If you're running the program from the CD and have not installed any of it to your hard drive, run the installation utility as described in the instruction insert and make sure the fonts are selected to be installed.

Some of my graphics don't display properly. Is there a solution?

If any of your images appear only partially or look fuzzy or incomplete on your screen, t ry decreasing the hardware acceleration for your display adapter. Hardware acceleration specifies the rate of speed you want for your graphics display hardware. In many cases decreasing this setting may resolve some problems in displaying or printing graphics, or causing error messages. To decrease the hardware acceleration for your display adapter click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the Display icon. Click the Settings tab, then Advanced. Under the Performance tab (Troubleshooting tab in Windows 2000 or XP), move the slider bar to lower the hardware acceleration setting to None. Click OK, then click OK again to return to Control Panel. Restart your computer if prompted. This may or may not affect graphics motion on your screen, but will not affect the way your computer runs in general. And, you can always change the setting back to "Full".

Some of my alphabets don't show up at all after typing text. Why is that?

Make sure you have a fill pattern and color selected. Some of the alphabets are made entirely of fill patterns, so without one selected nothing will show. Also, some of the alphabets use both upper and lowercase letters to produce different results, so be sure to try both in the "Type Text Here" box to see the different results.

For example, type the letters AaBbCc, select a color (if there's 2 choices of colors, be sure to select both) and click Preview. You'll see that upper and lowercase text produces different letters, and that the fill colors affect specific areas of the letters. Just play around with it a little and you'll get familiar with the different alphabets.

How do I change the size of my Journalettes, alphabets and images?

To move and size images within the lettering program, do the following:

Select an image, or create a word phrase or Journalette and click Print. On the Print page, click the Add Image button. Once the image is on the page, click on it once to activate the border tabs. Drag the tabs up or down to size the image. Use the corner tabs to keep the image from stretching out of shape. Drag the image from its center to move it.

The same principle applies when copying from the lettering program and pasting into a word processor. Click and size the image. Drag to move it. If, after pasting the image to the page, you can't size or move it after clicking the image, use Edit-Paste Special to paste the image to the page. Often times this prevents these types of problems.

My Journalettes or images won't save. I click the save button but there's no reaction?

This glitch will occur on some computer systems. Here's how to work around it:

Create your Journalette and click the Print button. When the Print window opens, click the CLose Print Window button and you'll be returned to the Journalettes page. Click the Save As button and you should now be able to save the Journalette image. This need only be done once for as long as the CK program is running. Each time you run the program again, you'll have to do this the first time you wish to save.

Can I stack letters vertically if I don't have Vol 4?

CK Volume 4 has the option to print titles vertically. If you purchase this program it will install with other recent CK CD's that you have. (Recent refers to any CK cd's that offer fillable alphabets.) Another option is to buy one of the Theme Packs from the CK website. When you install a Theme Pack, you get an updated browser that also offers vertical printing.

Otherwise, you'd have to add separate letters to the print page, and move and size them to your preference. For example, type out your first letter and click Preview, then Print, then Add Image (if the image does not automatically appear on the print page). The move and size the image into position (see below.)

Now close the print window (you won't lose any information) and type your second letter, click Preview, Print, and Add Image. Then arrange it on the page below the other letter(s).

I installed Vol. 4 along with other volumes, but I don't have the vertical button. Why not?

For some reason, the Vol. 4 Image Browser has not replaced the other Image Browsers from the other CD's as it is supposed to. Usually this will happen if you did not install Vol. 4 last, because each successive installation will overwrite the previous Image Browser. For instance, if you install the Combo last, the Image Browser from the Combo, which does not have vertical alphabets, will overwrite the Vol. 4 browser and you'll lose this feature.

Ideally, if you uninstall your CK programs and reinstall them again, making sure Vol. 4 is the last one to install, you should be ok.

If you did install Vol. 4 last, and you still do not have all the features showing, such as Vertical Alphabets and categorized Journalettes, then the solution is to copy the CK file from the Vol. 4 CD and paste it into the CKBrowser directory on your hard drive. Here's how to do it:

1. Put the Vol. 4 CD into the drive and close the CK menu window if it opens.
2. Point to your Start button and click the right-side mouse button, then choose Explore from the menu.
3. In the left hand window, locate your CD drive under My Computer (You may need to click the plus sign next to My Computer to see all the contents) and click once on the CK icon. In the right hand window you'll now see all the contents of the CD.
4. Locate the file called CK (It may look like CK.exe, depending on how your folder options are set up) and click once on it to select it. From the menu at the top of the explorer window select Edit-Copy.

Now that you've copied the CK file from the Vol. 4 CD, it's time to paste it into the CKBrowser directory on your hard drive. Continuing...

5. In the left hand window, scroll up a little and look for your C: drive. If there's a plus sign next to it, click the plus sign so all the folders on your C: drive appear. Locate the folder called CKBrowser.
6. Click once on the CKBrowser folder to select it, then point your mouse to a blank spot in the right-hand side of the Explorer window and click once. This will make the right side portion of the Explorer window active. Now, from the menu select Edit-Paste.
7. Your computer will tell you that the file CK already exists, and do you wish to replace it? Click Yes to replace the file.

And that's it. If your Creative Lettering program is running, close it and start it again. You should now have Vertical Alphabets and categorized Journalettes; all the features of Vol. 4.

I have Windows XP, and my fonts don't show up properly in my word processor list.

Following these steps should fix the issue: Point to a blank spot on your desktop (anywhere but on an icon) and right-click, then select Properties. Click on the Appearance tab. Click on the down arrow under Windows and Buttons and select Windows Classic Style and click OK. Then, check if the true type fonts are working, and if they are, to go back and repeat the above, and change back to Windows XP style.

Reboot your computer once you have made the change and the fonts should display properly.

If I purchase more than one CK CD, does it matter the order I install them?

It does matter the order the programs are installed. However, usually if you install one out of order, reinstalling the latest version will correct any potential problems. If it does not, your best option is to backup your installed Fillable Alphabets, Clip Art and Fill Colors and then completely remove the programs. Then reinstall them in the correct order. Here is information to help you accomplish this and to let you know the correct order:

1. Make a backup of installed Fillable Alphabets, Clip Art and Fill Colors.
2. Manually uninstall the software
3. Erase the registry entry for this software
4. Reboot your machine
5. Reinstall your LD software in the correct order
6. Restore your alphabets, Journaling Delights and Clip Art
7. Download and install the latest CK update

Here's how to do it:

1. Note, you would only need to backup these items if you had installed additional Fillable Alphabets, or if you have installed a CK Theme Pack.

To backup your installed Fillable Alphabets, go to the C:\CKBrowser\Images\Color folder. Select all the alphabet folders(click on one and hit Ctrl and A on the keyboard – that should select them all). Then copy these folders and place them in a backup folder (you may want to create one called CKBackup).
To backup your installed Clip Art, if you only have CK version 4 or older (see the list below) and you haven't installed an update, copying the color folder (the one you did for alphabets) will copy the clip art images too. If you have a newer verison, go to the C:\CKBrowser\Images\Clipart folder. Select all the Clip Art folders. Copy these folders and paste them in the backup folder.
For the Fill Colors, go to the C:\CKBrowser\Fills folder. Select all the Fill category folders. Copy these folders and paste them in the backup folder.

2. To manually remove the program go to the hard drive C:\ and open the CKBrowser folder. Delete the folder called CKBrowser. That should remove the CK programs from your system.

3. Click on Start-Run. Type the word "regedit" (without quotes) and click OK. Click the plus sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER and SOFTWARE. Click directly on the folder called Creating Keepsakes. If you only have the Creative Lettering Image Browser folder inside, delete the Creating Keepsakes folder. If there are other folders, delete just the Creative Lettering Image Browser folder. Close the registry editor.

4. Reboot your machine. When it is up again, make sure all programs are closed (even your virus software).

5. Reinstall all your CD's in the order of oldest to newest. Here is the order to install the CK programs:

Updated CK Creative Lettering Vol 1
Updated CK Creative Lettering Vol 2
CK Creative Lettering Vol 3

6. Copy your Fillable Alphabets, Clip Art and Fill Colors back to the correct CKBrowser folders. See the correct location in step 1.

7. Here is the link to the updated CKBrowser file (version 5.4.0.17). Download this file to your Desktop, and when the download is complete, double-click on the file to install it. Once the installation is complete, you can move the downloaded file to another folder or delete it, then use your regular CK icon to run the program.

You have to be connected to the Internet when installing this update, because it receives additional files from our website.

ALSO: Make sure you restart the computer after making this update. Then, run the CK program and go to Help-About. You should have version 5.4.0.17 or later if you updated successfully.

Now you should be ready to run the program.
